Helping Parents Find Perspective

posted Apr 27, 2015, 8:23 PM by Debbie Sokol
Therese Boyle, former high-level player, coach, and mother of six, encourages parents to have the proper attitude about their children’s involvement in volleyball.

She stresses how much volleyball and other competitive sports offer beyond scholarship opportunities – and why it’s important for parents to consider whether they’re making this investment for the right reasons. Is it to teach coping skills, routine and discipline? Is it to help children “get outside of themselves” by encouraging a teammate who’s been on the bench for the last four games?

If parents view a scholarship as an added bonus, they’ll align their goals with their children’s and help avoid burnout, either during their club years or at the next level. from The Art of Coaching Volleyball
